Questions
New York On Premises Liquor License FAQ
Do I need to serve food for an on premises liquor license?
For most on premises liquor licenses New York requires food service to be available during operating hours. We confirm the exact requirement for your license class and venue during your consultation.
What are the 200 and 500 foot rules?
The 200 foot rule generally prevents a new on premises liquor license within 200 feet of a school or a place of worship. The 500 foot rule can trigger a public interest hearing when three or more on premises liquor licenses already sit within 500 feet. We check both before you sign a lease.
How long does approval take?
The State Liquor Authority reviews most applications in roughly 22 to 26 weeks. A temporary permit, where eligible, is usually issued in about 30 days and is valid for 180 days.
